Kate Stephen
Kate cannot
remember a time in the family without Clydesdales when her father George and her
Uncles were pre-eminent showing Friesian cattle. However it was only after
the sad death of her father and her uncles when her brother Ian was given the
remainder of the Clydesdales that she began to take a serious interest in the
breed.
By some strange
quirk of fate she became the Secretary of the Clydesdale Horse Society in 1997,
a post that she held until she was head hunted to be the Livestock and
Competitions Manager of the Royal Highland Show in 2002. Clydesdales are a
bit like an addictive drug to her - and a costly one too!
Philippa Stephen
Philly serves very
much as the show stockman for the Arradoul Clydesdales. Having won the national
Young Handlers final aged 14 in 1997, she also held the Young Stockman's title
for 3 consecutive years aged 15, 16 and 17 in 1998, 1999 and 2000.
Philly can now be
found working within the main show rings of Scotland with all the Arradoul Clydesdales,
in particular Arradoul Melody and can also be found competing in ridden classes.
Philly is personally responsible for having broken in all our ridden Clydesdale
Horses and has recently graduated with a LL.M. Masters (with merit) in
Environmental Law from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Niki Stephen
After having grown
up through the Clydesdale Young Handlers classes at local shows, Niki's
preference has fallen very much towards the light legged horses that we own. She
has been responsible for the successes that we have had within both Show Hunter
Pony, and Show Pony classes.
Niki keeps the ponies
and cross bred horses that she works upon at livery in Aberdeen, returning home to compete
annually at all the local shows and events. Last year, she enjoyed great success with The
Den Rowanberry taking the 2003 reserve Show Pony under Saddle championship at
Keith Show. She juggles a managerial position in Aberdeen with her horses.
Laura Young
Currently aged 14,
Laura can be found competing in the Clydesdale Young Handlers classes throughout
Scotland. She has enjoyed many winning successes at local show, even winning her
first ever Young Handlers class at Montrose Highland Games in 2001, and in that
same year going on to win the Aberdeen Clydesdale show young handlers class of
over 15 entries, at her first attempt.
She competed again
this year in the Young Handlers final at the Royal Highland Show, coming 6th out
of 12. She also competed in the Young Stockman's and as the youngest entrant in
the class did extremely well to come 4th out of the 6 entries forward. Laura
rides the ponies at home, and might be found very soon in the ridden Clydesdale
classes.
George Young
Too young to
compete in the Young Handlers classes, George is still only able to work on the
horses at home. George turned 12 this Christmas, so he will have to wait until
next year before he is able to challenge his sister Laura in the show
rings.
Having ridden
Rosie, one of our ponies, at home it is hoped that George will end this showing
season by competing in the ridden Clydesdale class at Aberdeen Show. Watch this
space!!
James Bennett
A special tribute
must now be made to Jimmy Bennett. Having been an integral part of our
Clydesdale Showing for decades, Jimmy is sadly missed, and we only wish he could
have been here to see us win the Champion of Champions trophy at Aberdeen in
2003.
Jimmy has always
been a part of Arradoul, and could be found annually throughout the North of
Scotland in the show rings with his own Baremuir Clydesdales. He must take the
credit for having taught the younger Arradoul generations nearly everything that
they know about the breed, and his knowledge will continue to be passed onwards.
In tribute, a
special prize in loving memory of Jimmy has now been donated to the Clydesdale
Section at Keith Show - good luck to all those who now compete for the Baremuir
Trophy.
